PANJIM: BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Thursday stated that the party will contest the upcoming Goa Assembly elections on its own and ruled out any alliance with other political parties.
He, however, cautioned that BJP has not yet taken an official decision regarding ‘joining hands’ with any political party or forming a pre-poll alliance but reiterated that as of now, the party plans to contest the elections due in February 2022, on it own.
He said that since there was still time for elections, he can’t give a definite answer at the moment.
Earlier, when 10 Congress MLAs had joined the party, BJP had dropped GFP and MGP Ministers as well the Porvorim Independent MLA from the cabinet, all of whom were in alliance with the BJP-led government.
When former Chief Minister (late) Manohar Parrikar was in power, three former Congress MLAs had embraced the saffron party and won the by-polls on the BJP ticket.
BJP currently has Independent Priol MLA Govind Gaude as a Minister, who has admitted that he would consider joining the party if an offer of a ticket is made to him.
