Porvorim: The opposition on Monday said that there was no reason for the government to increase power tariff in the State when the Electricity Department made over Rs 261 crore profits during the last financial year.
Speaking to mediapersons, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said that the Electricity Department earned Rs 2,772 crore and made an expenditure of Rs 2,522 crore thereby making a profit of over Rs 261 crore due to sale of power to various category of consumer during the financial year 2023-24.
He said that though a starred question regarding increase in power tariffs was tabled by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, the same could not be discussed during Question Hour since the sitting of the House was adjourned on two occasions.
He said that he wanted to know the steps the government had taken to reduce the burden of power tariff on the common man.
