PORVORIM: Patients visiting the District Hospital at Mapusa with skin-related ailments have been left disappointed, as there is no skin specialist and the OPD has been closed for the past two months.
It may be recalled that the Directorate of Health Services (DHS) had transferred the lady skin specialist attached to the hospital, but the department is yet to depute another doctor at the hospital.
A patient, Freddy Menezes, who visited District Hospital on Friday for a medical check-up got furious after he found the skin OPD closed.
“It’s over two months now since the skin specialist has been transferred, but so far no action has been taken to send another doctor to replace her,” said Menezes.
“Besides wasting the precious time of patients visiting the hospital from different parts of North Goa, patients are forced to visit private medical practitioners for urgent treatment,” added the patient.
“The District Hospital is also not divulging when the new doctor will take charge of the skin OPD. This is ridiculous,” said Menezes.
When contacted, acting Medical Superintendent Dr Shyam Tadwadker admitted that the skin OPD has been closed for want of doctors.
“The appointment of doctors is done by the health department. I have already requested the department to send in a replacement for the skin specialist who has been transferred elsewhere,” said Dr Tadwadker.
