No sopo fee collected from wholesale fish market traders!

MARGAO: The South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) suffered a loss on Tuesday as no sopo fee was collected from the traders operating at the wholesale fish market.

It may be recalled that on Monday, the Margao Wholesale Fish Market Association had taken out a morcha against the SGPDA and had stated that they will not pay any fees to the present sopo collector.

They had also cited a High Court order wherein the PDA was directed to appoint a new sopo collector by December 27. Although, they had discussed this with the SGPDA Member Secretary and had warned of law and order problems, on Tuesday, no new sopo collector was appointed and thus no fees were collected from the traders.

While the SGPDA is finalising the process of appointing a new sopo collector, the SGPDA, meantime, is losing its daily quota of sopo collection fees. Sources said that amount would be in lakhs. This issue is going to be taken up at the next SGPDA Board meeting.
