In her submission to North District Collector Nila Mohanan on Friday, Superintendent of Police (North) Priyanka Kashyap expressed that since the by-poll in the capital is round the corner, it was advisable to avoid possible law and order problem and communal disharmony.
“Even otherwise, his presence could create tension in the State as was recently witnessed in South Goa, considering his controversial remarks. Now, the situation is such that Panjim by-poll is scheduled on February 13, and counting on February 16, and Muthalik has requested his visit in the very same month. We cannot take a chance…” an official said.
The matter, which came up for hearing before the Collector on Saturday, has been adjourned to Tuesday.
Earlier, the police had made similar recommendation raising possibility of law and order disturbances, following which a ban on his entry was extended by 60 days under section 141 of CrPC.
