MARGAO: Three of the ruling councillors of Margão Municipal Council rumoured to be planning a no-confidence motion against Chairperson Babita Angle Prabhudesai.
Councillors elected on Fatorda Forward panel are reportedly trying to garner support from other councillors to vote out the chairperson.
Discord and discontent with the ruling members are not new to the MMC as there have been attempts by councillors earlier to vote out the chairperson. The level of discord was evident when three councillors cornered the chairperson during the council meeting on Friday.
Councillors Terence Barbosa, Peter Fernandes and Jose Fernandes took chairperson to task after she informed the council that the administration released a payment of Rs 2.5 crore to the Fomento Green without confirmation of the meeting minutes.
These three councillors alleged that when small-time traders from municipal jurisdiction are being harassed for payment of trade taxes and trade licence charges, the municipality was releasing payment in crores of rupees to Fomento Green even after knowing that they have done no work on the garbage disposal front at Sonsoddo.
Meanwhile, a faction within the ruling group is reportedly looking out candidate either from the Bahujan samaj or from the minority community to replace the current chairperson. The picture will be clear only on Monday.
