PONDA: The no-confidence motion against Curti Khandepar sarpanch Santan Fernandes was defeated as five opposition panchas failed to turn up for the special meeting convened to discuss the motion.
However, one of them voted in favour of Sarpanch and thus motion was defeated by 6-0 margin.
Santan, who is a Goa Forward Party supporter along with panchas namely Deputy Sarpanch Shailesh Shet, Rukma Khandeparkar, Shravni Gaude, Gurudas Khedekar and Dadi Naik were present.
Shailesh who had signed the no-confidence motion a fortnight ago, on Friday changed his stand and backed Santan.
Shailesh claimed that he is sarpanch’s supporter but was pressurised to sign the no-confidence motion by MGP leader and had even filed a complaint. Later, the matter was solved amicably.
