MARGAO: Eight councillors of the Margao Municipal council have submitted a no confidence motion against Chairperson Gonzaco Rebello on Tuesday. Councillors Damu Shirodkar, Rosy Pereira, Babita Naik, Sadanand Naik, Tito Cardozo, Sushila Naik, Dorris Texeira and Avinash Shirodkar submitted the duly signed motion to the Director of Municipal Administration.
Damu Shirodkar who has initiated the move also claims the support of Bertha Cardozo for the motion.
Shirodkar says they haven’t approached any councillor for support but is confident that Gonzaco will be voted out. He also claims that as a chairperson, Rebello has not done any developmental work at all in their wards.
Shirodkar, Dorris Texeira and Sushila Naik have expressed anger over Gonzaco’s false claims that he has got their support. Shirodkar also revealed that whatever tenders were passed during the tenure of former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat was the last set of works MMC had done. He rubbished the claims of Gonzaco that he has got tenders passed for MMC.
Regarding the illegal construction of Gonzaco episode Shirodkar said, “We councillors deeply apologise for taking Gonzaco’s side and holding a dharna in his support, we have realised we were wrong.”
The Director of Municipal Administration will fix a date for voting on the no confidence motion submitted by the councillors.
