PANJIM: The Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) on Tuesday informed mining lease holders about its decision to inspect all the 89 mining leases from May 4, before granting Consent to Operate under the Air and Water Acts.
On Tuesday afternoon mine owners had a meeting with GSPCB chairman Jose Manuel Noronha, wherein the Board was urged to expedite the process of granting consent to all 89 mining leases.
When contacted, Noronha said that the mine owners have been informed about the detailed procedure that would be followed for granting the consent, which will begin with site inspections from May 4.
“The report would be then placed before the technical advisory committee of the Board for scrutiny, who in return will submit its findings to the Board for approval,” Noronha said.
Following lifting of EC abeyance by the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF), all 89 renewed mining leases, have applied for Consent.
