PONDA: A dramatic turn of events unfolded in the Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) on Monday as the no-confidence motion against chairperson Shantaram Colvekar fizzled out as none of 15 councillors attended a special meeting but soon eight councillors moved a no-confidence motion against vice-chairperson Virendra Dhavalikar.
However, it was also surprising to note that the seven councillors, who had signed the motion, were seen outside the PMC premises and did not turn up in municipal hall as they failed to get one councillor to gain majority to oust the chairperson.
Earlier, presiding officer Ajay Gaude gave the councillors 40 minutes and since no councillor turned up he declared the meeting adjourned for tomorrow. However, within a few minutes, he changed his mind and declared the no-confidence motion as defeated (fizzled out). He said neither the seven members, who signed the no trust motion attended the meeting nor those who opposed the same were present.
Soon after the no-confidence motion against the chairperson fizzled out, eight councillors moved a no-trust motion against vice chairperson Virendra Dhavalikar which was signed by chairperson Shantaram Colvekar.
Virendra was among those who signed the no-confidence motion against Colvekar which got defeated on Monday.
