No-trust motion against Socorro sarpanch will reveal CM’s ‘intentions’: MLA

MAPUSA: Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte on Saturday said the action of government vis-à-vis the upcoming no-confidence motion against Socorro Sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar will indicate whether or not Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant supports “land grabbers” and “scamsters”.

Khaunte said, “Socorro panchas have expressed their apprehensions that the meeting convened to discuss no-confidence motion against the sarpanch may be sabotaged with the help of the Chief Minister.”

“Socorro Panchayat is a body from where few members had shifted over to the BJP. Last three years, the panchayat lost out on development. Vazarkar and his group, in last three years, used the support of the Chief Minister and BJP government. Forged sale deeds and land scams were regular affairs,” he alleged.

“Everyone has seen how the BJP government interfered and intervened in Siridao-Pale Panchayat. The panchas were forced to approach the High Court seeking directions to the government,” Khaunte recalled.

He said, “Socorro panchas have apprehensions that mischief could be played on October 5, when the no-confidence motion will be taken up for discussion. This is why they have asked the Chief Minister not to interfere in the matter. There is government’s interference everywhere, including that of Chief Minister. Democracy is in peril.”
