Non-ECR passports registration kept in abeyance: MEA

MARGAO: The Ministry of External Affairs issued a public notice stating that the Competent Authority has decided to keep the advisory regarding mandatory registration of Non-ECR passport holders in abeyance until further orders.
The Ministry had issued an order on November 14, 2018 stating that people travelling to 18 ECR countries will have to register online otherwise they would not be allowed to board the flight.
Evidently, the Non-Resident Indians living in the countries did not welcome the Order. The Ministry had received representations from various quarters, including Non-ECR passport holders already employed in ECR countries, regarding difficulties faced by them in registering on the website. The Indian missions in those countries have also forwarded representation received by them from the local Indian community to the Ministry.
As a result, the Minister has taken the decision to keep its Order in abeyance. However, if any emigrant wants to register voluntarily they can do so by visiting the site emigrate.gov.in
