PANJIM: As heavy showers took a break on Sunday, the flood water subsided at low-lying areas but a few houses and shops in Taleigao constituency were still under water. The woes of some flood-affected families who were shifted to safer location, continued on Sunday when they were left to starve as no local authorities provided them food packets or clean drinking water.
About 25 family members, currently taking shelter at government primary school in Taleigao have complained of poor disaster management. “The government authorities provided us food on Saturday evening but the entire Sunday we had nothing to eat. Some locals then supplied us food and water,” said one of them.
With torrential rains creating havoc in the State since over a week, families living in the flood-prone areas were temporarily rehabilitated to a safe location. The water level dipped in these areas and roads were cleared of water-logging.
The situation at Mala, also largely disturbed by heavy rains and landslides, had no complaints, as per the fire control room that had received 30 emergency calls on Saturday.
The State experienced showers throughout the day as it reached above normal level. As per the Indian Metrological Centre in Goa, the rainfall is ‘active’ and the State will experience moderate rainfall throughout the week.
