PANJIM: A special meeting of the North Goa Zilla Panchayat (ZP) and the South Goa ZP will be convened August 26, at 10.30 am, to elect the new adhyakshas.
Both the posts had fallen vacant after the resignation of North Goa ZP adhyaksh Siddesh Naik and South Goa ZP adhayksh Suvarna Prabhu Tendulkar. Both BJP-backed ZP members submitted their resignations earlier this month as per directions from the party.
Prabhu Tendulkar resigned on August 1 while, Naik followed her suit next day. Their resignations have been accepted by the Director of Panchayats Siddhi Halarnakar.
Prabhu Tendulkar, elected from Sanvordem ZP constituency was elected ZP adhyaksh soon after the ZP elections in December 2020. On the other hand, Corlim ZP member Naik was elected North Goa ZP adhayksh in May 2022 after Socorro ZP member Kartik Kudnekar was asked to quit to pave way for Naik, son of Union Minister of State for Power Shripad Naik, to take over.
