North candidates spend far below permitted limit

PANJIM: The expenditure by the candidates contesting from North Goa parliamentary constituency has been much below the permitted limit of Rs 50 lakhs fixed by the election authorities. BJP candidate and Union Minister for Ayush Shripad Naik has spent the highest amount of Rs 18.07 lakhs on his election campaign. 
A total of six candidates were in fray for the April 23 Lok Sabha elections. The election campaign lasted for nearly one and half month before it concluded on April 19. 
As per the press statement released by the North District Election Officer (DEO), Naik’s total expenditure was Rs 18,07,839, while Congress’ Girish Chodankar spent Rs 12,84,737. Pradeep Padgaonkar, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate was incurred in an expenditure of Rs 3,41,691. 
The expenditure by independent candidates were as follows: Amit Korgaonkar (Rs 43,354), Bhagawant Kamat (Rs 25,000)and Aishwarya Salgaonkar (Rs 38,420). 
The DEO has said that the accounts were cross checked with the Shadow Observation Registers (SOR) maintained by the Assistant Expenditure Observers. As many as three inspections of the accounts were conducted.
