The North Goa District Administration has intensified preparations and safety arrangements for the upcoming annual jatra of Shree Devi Lairai Temple in Shirgao, scheduled to begin on April 21, 2026.
The measures are being implemented under the supervision of District Collector and Chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority, Ankit Yadav, with a focus on crowd control and public safety during the large religious gathering.

A sensitisation meeting for dhonds (devotees) was held in Shirgao in the presence of Additional Collector Pravin Parab, Superintendent of Police Prabodh Shirvoikar, Deputy Collector and Sub-Divisional Magistrate Bicholim Shubham Naik, and DySP Bicholim Shridevi B. V., along with officials from various government departments and representatives of the temple management committee.
During the session, devotees were briefed on safety guidelines, including following designated one-way routes, using holding areas at crowded points, avoiding pushing or reverse movement, and cooperating with volunteers and authorities to ensure smooth conduct of rituals.
Authorities have also issued a joint task force order to strengthen enforcement during the festival. The order provides for coordinated action by police, revenue officials, the panchayat, the Public Works Department, fire services, and other departments to regulate temporary structures, remove obstructions, and maintain clear emergency access routes.
The district administration has urged all devotees attending the jatra to follow official instructions and cooperate with authorities to ensure the safe and orderly celebration of the festival.
