MAPUSA: The North Goa District Congress Committee has raised a concern over the stone quarrying operations being carried out close to the Tilari Dam and demand it should be stopped.
At the same time they have sought for action to be initiated in the matter of the leakage of the Dhamna Dam and appealed to the High Court to take suo moto cognizance in both these issues.
On Friday, while addressing the media they alleged that stone quarrying activities being carried out in close proximity to the dam by means of blasting should be stopped at the earliest.
On Wednesday, it may be recalled that the North Goa Congress Committee had inspected the Assonora Water Treatment Plant and Tilari dam which is storing water.
They were surprised to see that the dam was badly maintained. During the inspection of the Tilari dam the delegation noticed that four or five stone quarries were involved in blasting activities very close to the dam. Hence they demanded that a proper inspection of the dam be carried out by the government with a team of experts.
While addressing the media at the North Goa District Congress at Mapusa, the Bicholim Block Congress President, Meghasham Raut has demanded for a suo moto cognizance by the court over the blasting activities carried out near the dam.
“I appeal to the HC to take suo moto cognizance of the stone quarrying activities taking place close to the dam. Huge number of lives is in danger as this will result in dirty water coming to the water treatment plant at Assonora,” said Raut.
