MAPUSA: The North Goa District Congress Committee on Monday passed a resolution opposing Lok Sabha nomination to ‘outsiders’ and demanded that the ticket be given only to loyal Congressman.
The resolution was passed following reports of former Bicholim MLA Naresh Sawal expressing his desire to contest Lok Sabha elections either on Congress or BJP ticket even as he is still a member of the regional MG Party.
The NGDCC meeting discussed the issue and NGDCC vice president Chandan Mandrekar proposed resolution opposing Lok Sabha ticket to ‘outsider’. NGDCC secretary Sakharam Parab second the resolution.
GPCC president Amit Patkar, senior vice president M K Shaikh, Aldona MLA Adv Carlos Alvares Ferreira and former Union Minister Ramakant Khalap were present. The copies of the resolution will be forwarded to the GPCC for further action, it was informed.
During the meeting, it was informed that Khalap and former NGDCC president Vijay Bhike were the two aspirants for the party ticket from North Goa constituency.
The committee was of the opinion that any person willing to join the Congress should first work to strengthen the organisation so that his candidature can be considered for the elections.
