Following a series of road accidents reported along the Ganeshpuri–Marna-Siolim road, the North Goa District Road Safety Committee on Monday carried out a joint inspection of the accident-prone stretch to assess safety concerns and identify corrective measures.
The inspection, conducted around 11 am, was initiated after a request by the Siolim Civic & Consumer Forum (SCCF). Members of the committee, along with local representatives and stakeholders, visited the hazardous slope area to examine the risks faced by motorists, especially due to the steep gradient.

During the inspection, the team reviewed several factors believed to be contributing to frequent accidents, including road design flaws, poor visibility, drainage issues, inadequate signage, and the absence of sufficient protective infrastructure such as crash barriers and warning systems.
Residents from the area reiterated their long-standing concerns over the condition of the stretch, highlighting the growing danger posed to daily commuters due to inadequate road safety measures.
The inspection team assembled at Marna in Siolim, where they also interacted with local residents to gather feedback and firsthand accounts regarding the recurring mishaps on the route.
Gregory D’Souza coordinated the inspection on behalf of SCCF and stressed the urgent need for immediate corrective action to prevent further accidents.
Authorities are expected to prepare and submit a report containing recommendations aimed at improving road safety along the Ganeshpuri–Marna-Siolim stretch. Further action from the concerned government departments is awaited.
