North Goa ‘switched off’ for 3 hours

PANJIM: Entire North Goa faced a major power shutdown in the wee hours of Saturday as the Western Grid, supplying power to the district, suffered a breakdown.

The breakdown was reported at 4 am with North Goa, including the capital city, facing a power failure for nearly three hours, before electricity was partially restored at 7 am.
From 6.30 am onwards power fluctuations were reported, forcing many households to disconnect electrical switches to avert damage to appliances. The situation returned to normal between 7 and 7.30 am.
The State power department confirmed that the western grid power failed on the 400KV line – Karhad to Colvale. The reason has not been revealed. Supply was restored by availing power from the Southern region. “The situation is under control. Power has been restored and work to repair the power supply line has commenced,” an official said.
After Central Region, the Western region is the second highest supplier of power to the State. With no power plant of its own, the State is totally dependent on Central power supply.
