MARGAO: After meeting Minister of State for Shipping (Independent Charge) Mansukh Mandaviya, Union AYUSH Minister and North Goa MP Shripad Naik informed that the ban on the Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) will soon be lifted.
Naik said he has discussed with the minister the issue of seafarers who have been debarred from applying the Indian CDC for a period of five years.
The MP said the process has already started and Mandaviyaji has assured to lift the ban and restart the CDC.
Several seafarers were left in the lurch following the five-year ban which denied them from getting employment. The Goan Seamen Association of India (GSAI) had approached the North Goa MP to take up the issue with the Central Minister.
The GSAI said, “We are just waiting to see that the seafarers can practically apply soon and it’s a positive step which Shripad Naik has taken in the interest of seafarers especially job has become a priority in each household due to COVID-19 and GSAI will always stand by our seafarers’ issues and will work for the betterment of the society,” said Frank Viegas GSAI president.
