Sattari farmers form manch to fight wild animals
VALPOI: Farmers from Sattari formed an organisation called Sattari Shetkari Jagruti Manch to protect the agricultural losses suffered by them due to the menace of the wild animals.
Responding to the plight of locals and farmers, spokesperson of the organisation Uday Sawant said that “Government is planning to declare wild boar as a vermin but we want the Government to declare monkeys, langurs and bisons as a vermin first as they are more destructive than the wild boars.”
“We want the Government to act seriously on this issue because the productivity of agricultural products has gone down due to this wild animals’ menace and many farmers have given up farming,” he added. “The government has issued licences for arms for the protection of farms but the farmers can’t use them as the government has again made killing of wild animals illegal,” he quipped. He said they are planning to organise a maha agitation.
Naneli women storm into PWD office
VALPOI: Women from Naneli in Sattari taluka, angry over the poor water supply for the last two months, today stormed in the office of the PWD (Water Supply) in Valpoi and grilled the officer on duty regarding the issue. The women cornered Junior Engineer Prashant Gawade and demanded to know why the public taps went dry even during the monsoon season. The PWD is supplying water through tankers, which the women, claim is very irregular. This puts the villagers into great inconvenience, they said. The women questioned why they should be paying the bills if they don’t get regular water supply. Mrs Savitri Gawas, an elderly woman, said if the problem is not solved within four days, they would lead a morcha.
