PANJIM: Stating that Goa Forward Party (GFP) has stood exposed on the ongoing formalin-fish controversy, Congress party on Sunday said that its decision not to ally with Vijai Sardesai-led party during 2017 election has proved to be “blessing in disguise”. The party has also said that it will never tie up with GFP in future.
Speaking to media persons, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Girish Chodankar said that today when he introspect, his party leadership’s cautious decision not to ally with Vijai Sardesai’s party is proved to be “blessing in disguise”. “If we see, last one year tenure of Vijai Sardesai as Minister is full of controversies. He has left no stone unturned to destroy the State,” he said.
“In such situation, our senior leaders’ decision not to go with Goa Forward Party has been justified today. If we had to ally with Sardesai and formed a government, Congress would have been part and parcel of his sin. We would have to face people’s wrath,” Chodankar stated.
He said that party high command and the local leader’s cautious decision not to have pre and post poll alliance, helped party in big way. “On one side, while GFP talks of Goenkarpon, on the other side, for little money, it is acting as protection agent to fish mafia by compromising with the health of lakhs of people,” he stated.
When asked, whether party will ever tie up with GFP in future if need arises, Chodankar said “there is absolutely no question”.
“Congress will never tie up with any person or party which is anti people or is here to destroy the State. Congress party will never compromise with people interest,” he stated.
Congress had declined to form pre poll alliance with GFP during February 2017 election. Congress won 17 seats, while GFP claimed three. Despite emerging as single largest party, Congress failed to form the government.
