MARGAO: Yuri Alemao dismissed as false and baseless the allegation made by Congress MLA Clafasio Dias that he was stopping or delaying developmental projects in the Cuncolim constituency and said that statement proves Clafasio’s frustration and running out of ideas.
Yuri said that people regret the mistake they committed in electing Clafasio as their MLA as today even the works done by his father Joaquim Alemao like the Cuncolim bus stand, football ground, freedom fighters memorial, garbage treatment plant, multipurpose hall, municipal hall, market complex and 6 other community halls are suffering from neglect and sorely need maintenance.
While pointing out that the MLA should get the funds for maintenance of these works, he pointed out how his father had stood by the people to scrap the housing board project at Panzorconni.
Dismissing Clafasio’s claim of getting electrical works amounting to Rs 9 crore sanction, Yuri pointed out that then power minister Pandurang Madkaikar had gone on record to state that Clafasio after becoming the MLA had not proposed any works and the Rs 9 crore projects were those proposed by the earlier MLA Rajan Naik which was then estimated at Rs 3 crore.
“When the people of Cuncolim approached me with their problem, I personally approached Vijai Sardessai and got the much needed government sanction for the increased estimate,” he said.
He also pointed out how he took up the issue of State Highway 8 passing through Chandor and also the problem faced by residents of Panzorconni over the National Highway 17 and how these two problems are nearly resolved while the local MLA did nothing about them.
While pointing out that his father has always been with the people he said that Clafasio could do some development when he was a ZP member only because he had the support and backing of his father Joaquim Alemao.
He said that along with the youth of Cuncolim constituency, he only wants to take Cuncolim forward.
Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Vija Sardessai lamented that MLAs have been reduced to beggars who go begging to the people that they may resign. “We have also been opposition MLA and got the developmental works done in our constituency,” he said.
He said there was no reason for Clafasio to claim not being able to do work because he is an opposition MLA and added that presently there are three types of MLAs in Goa, the first being the pro-active one, second being the ones due to retire and the third are the ones who have thrown in the towel.
“Going by his statements, it appears that Clafasio has thrown in the towel but we shall not let down the people of Cuncolim,” he said.
