PANJIM: Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) Vice-Chairman Subhash Phaldessai has allayed apprehensions surrounding proposed demolition of Inox Multiplex at Campal stating the structure will undergo a six-month of renovation, not demolition.

Speaking to the reporters on sidelines of a press conference on Tuesday, Phaldessai also clarified that government or ESG would not spend any money on the project.

“Inox Leisure will take up the renovation of the four auditoriums between March and April. The work should complete by September-end after which the auditoriums will be reopened for screening of films,” he said.

In the wake of International Film Festival of India (IFFI) being hosted in Goa annually, the vice-chairman asserted that the multiplex will be renovated on international standards to meet expectations of IFFI.

Denying the claims by Congress about demolition of the multiplex and State bearing the expenditure, he said, “All the allegations are not true. Inox is carrying out the renovation and they will bear all the expense. Neither government nor ESG will spend a single rupee,” he reiterated.

On the rent earned from Inox, Phaldessai said that government will earn Rs 54 lakh per month after renovation, as against Rs 20 lakh per month being earned currently.
