Not here to divide BJP votes: Velingkar

PANJIM: Confident on his victory, former Goa RSS Chief Subhash Velingkar, who will fight his first election battle, claimed that “BJP cadres are going to be his silent voters”.
Velingkar, Goa Suraksha Manch’s (GSM) candidate, said the party is not contesting the Panjim by-poll to split the votes but to provide a clean candidate to the people of Panjim and to win the election.
“With the overwhelming support that I am getting from the people, irrespective of their caste, religion and political affiliation, I am sure about our victory. This has given us the confidence that we will win the Panjim by-election. The public response is clear that we are not here to split votes but to win,” Velingkar said.
Admitting that BJP leadership has become nervous and aggressive considering the support he is getting, Velingkar claimed that ‘even the BJP cadres are our silent supporters’.
“The BJP workers may be working for the party today but I am sure of them being my silent voters. On May 19, these BJP workers are going to vote for me. These grass root workers have high respect for me and I have witnessed that,” he said.
“Hence, I don’t consider Sidharth Kuncalienker (BJP candidate) as my contender as he will receive minimum votes. BJP, who is aware about its defeat and has made Sidharth the scapegoat,” he commented.
Further, the GSM leader also took jibes at Congress stating that the party had upset its workers by denying the ticket to its loyalist like Surendra Furtado and Yatin Parekh (both former City Mayors).
