Ponda: Incessant rain caused havoc in Ponda with several areas flooded in Ponda Talukà. There were incidents of nullahs overflowing and low lying field were flooded while at some places at Kavlem, Borim. One mud house at Kavlem belonging to Anand Kapileshwarkar collapsed.were collapsed. There was flooding in Borim with water entering in shops at three road side shops at Sakvar Borim while the house of Dilip Malavdekar at Borim was flooded with rain water from low lying areas after which fire station personnel rushed to this house to clear the water. The incessant heavy rain witnessed at Ponda since 8.30 am yesterday that continued till 11am today which not only flooded nullah and rivers but also the roadside gutters were seen overflowing on roadside everywhere. The rainy springs were also seen gushing from ground. However there was no rain in the evening gave relief to people.
There were around eight calls received by Ponda Fire Personnel. Incidences of trees falling on roads, houses and electric lines at Talavlim, Chirputem, Bethora, Usgao were reported. Parked Rickshaw was damaged at Bethora due to a tree collapsing on it. Due to a tree falling and a landslide, the road from Donshim Bandora near Minister Govind Gaude`s house to Farmagudi was closed. It was later cleared by PWD and Fire Personnel.
Ponda main nullah flowing towards Kavlem flooded
At midnight in Kavlem, the supply of electricity was disrupted after a coconut tree fell on a electric line due to heavy rains and the pole and the lines fell into a flooded nullah. There was a disruption in services for more than 12 hours. Locals and electricity officials including AE and JE of Ponda Electricity Department tried to restore the electricity ,pull up the pole from flooded Nullah and tied i to two coconut trees located on bank of Nullah and thus temporarily managed to restore the Electricity until flood water cleared from the area.
Sewerage Department had constructed several Sewerage Chambers along the roadside at Curti, Kavlem, Ponda for Sewerage Treatment Plants but locals witnessed that at Many Places water from Chambers was gushing from its cover, making them worry that when this is the situation when Sewerage Plants are not even operational, what would it create havoc after they became functional.
Locals feared that when this Sewerage Plant becomes operational they are sure to release out sewerage waste on public road through chambers during rainy causing nuisance to public. This Chambers are made up of bricks and rain water leakages into it , and said that they should be made of concrete to avoid leakages
