VASCO: Accusing the BJP of unnecessarily trying to use Delhi Archbishop’s letter to polarise a particular community, the GPCC president Girish Chodankar said the Congress does not find anything wrong in the Archbishop’s letter as it calls upon the citizens to pray for the nation before the 2019 elections.
Chodankar said BJP leaders should introspect as to why a particular community is feeling insecure.
He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Congress party’s public engagement programme “Jana Gana Mana, Nomon Tuka Goemkara”, to reach out to the people of Vasco on Wednesday. Congress leaders namely Sankalp Amonkar, Franciso Nunes, Pratima Coutinho and Janardhan Bhandari were present for the yatra, which commenced from the Vasco bus stand.
“I don’t think there is anything wrong in the Delhi Archbishop’s letter. On the contrary, the letter says that we should pay for the country and I don’t see any reason why BJP or any religious outfit should criticise the opinion of the Delhi Archbishop and they should have supported the letter as it is asking the people to pray for the nation,” Chodankar said.
“I think it’s a time for BJP leaders to introspect the fact that they have their government for last four years and they should find out why people are feeling this way, why a particular section of the community is feeling insecure and what are the reasons behind. India is a country where every Indian should feel safe and if he raises any doubts then the government has to think as to why a particular section is feeling insecure. Also, if Delhi Archbishop had criticised some community I would have been the first person to condemn it.
