MARGAO: Reacting to the criticism levelled against Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar for campaigning for the municipal elections, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that Parrikar’s campaign was expected and the hype surrounding his visit was unwarranted.
“BJPs leaders are karyakartas first. As all leaders, right from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to a chief minister of a BJP-ruled State, have risen to a higher post from a grassroot karyakarta, it is the duty of all to give some time to the karyakarta who is contesting the municipal elections,” said Parsekar, speaking to the media after inaugurating the 11th All Goa Fusion Dance Competition for specially-abled children at Gujarati Samaj School, Margao.
He added, “I have become an MLA and a chief minister only because the grassroot karyakartas have worked for me. There is nothing wrong in a minister or a chief minister or a central minister coming down to help a karyakarta in the elections. In BJP, there is more value for a karyakarta because all leaders have risen from karyakarta to the top level.”
Parsekar also claimed that the BJP-backed panels or candidates will rule at least 8 out of 11 municipalities, which are going to the polls on Sunday.
