PANJIM: The Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Panjim has issued notices to Goa Police over a application seeking directions to register a First Information Report against Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar for allegedly cheating the State to the tune of over Rs 40 lakh as the then Chairman of Goa Industrial Development Corporation.
The notices served on Superintendent of Police (North) Umesh Gaonkar and Panjim Police Inspector Siddhant Shirodkar have asked them to file their say on April 4.
Lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues had moved the JMFC after the police failed to register his complaint accusing the then CM of allegedly conspiring to cheat and cause loss of Rs 40,81,179 to the State exchequer.
In his application before the magistrate, Rodrigues has sought prompt investigation and that the court monitor the case.
The complaint copy supported by documents obtained under the Right to Information Act indicate that an area of 67,457.50 sq mts at Shiroda was allotted to Miditech Pvt Ltd on June 29, 2006 by GIDC and that a total premium of Rs 1,85,50,813 in seven installments was paid by the company from October 31, 2006 to February 1, 2012.
