Notice to K’taka, Maha in Mhadei case

PANJIM: The Mhadei Water Dispute Tribunal (MWDT) on Tuesday issued notice to Karnataka and Maharashtra in a disobedience application filed by Goa government against the former for injunction by way of diverting water from the Mhadei river basin to the Malaprabha basin.
MWDT chairman JM Panchal served notice to
Karnataka and Maharashtra directing them to file their reply within six weeks. Goa has been granted liberty to file a rejoinder within four weeks from the date of reply submitted by the two States.
Advocate Nishanath Patil waived notice on behalf of Karnataka and for Maharashtra it was by DM Nargolkar.
In August, Goa had moved the tribunal with a disobedience application against Karnataka under order 39 rule 2A of Civil Procedure Code (CrPC). The application sought for purging and enforcement of the Order of injunction dated April 17, 2014 and order of injunction contained in the award passed by the Tribunal itself.
