PANJIM: In a recent altercation that unfolded at Tonca, Cazanzalem on Monday evening, alleged criminal Suryakant Kambli, 55, alias Surya, was assaulted with deadly sharp weapons on the face, while getting into the car. Thereafter the two unknown assailants fled from the scene. The incident took place around 10pm near Ferns Bar, Tonca Caranzalem.
Surya sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving intensive care at GMC Bambolim. Police recorded the detailed statement of the patient, after obtaining fit for statement signal from the doctors.
Eight cases have been filed against Surya. These cases span multiple police stations, including Panjim, Pernem, Bicholim, Calangute, and Saligao. Charges against him include death threats, assault, and illegal possession of weapons. The recent incident at Caranzalem marks yet another chapter in Surya’s tumultuous history, where he found himself targeted by masked assailants.
The motive of the attack remains unknown. Panjim police have filed the case under crime number 195/2023 under section 307 r/w34 of IPC. Further investigations are being carried out by Sub-Inspector Mayur Panashikar under the guidance of Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar.
