MARGAO: On February 16, at 1.30 pm, one Xavier, full name not known, walked into the Fatorda Police Station informing the men-in-khaki about an assault case wherein a person lay injured at the Fatorda-Ambaji junction.
The policemen and Fatorda Police Station staff rushed to the spot and found a person lying, with injuries to his leg and thigh and bleeding. It was later learnt that the injured person was notorious criminal Anwar Shaikh alias “Tiger”.
Anwar has been in Colvale Jail for crimes such as extortion, etc.
SP Sammy Tavares, two staff and his official vehicle were at the crime scene. One of the accused, who was later identified as Ricky Hornekar, a resident of Sanvordem, was arrested.
Anwar was shifted to Hospicio Hospital, Margao and later referred to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
The police said there was an assault with a “chopper” but did not rule out the shooting incident as Fatorda PI Kapil Nayak disclosed that a bullet shell was found at the spot.
Ricky was interrogated at the police station.
A detailed statement of Anwar has been recorded at GMC, Bambolim wherein he has named one Ricky Hornekar, Velly D’Costa, a resident of Tilamol-Quepem, Imran Bepari from St Cruz, Vipul Pattari from Khareband and six unknown persons.
According to police, all these accused have reportedly assaulted Anwar with iron rods, koita and sticks. Anwar was also shot at and also sustained serious injuries to his knee, thigh, head and right arm in the attack.
Fatorda Police registered an offence under Sections 143, 147, 148 and 307 r/w 149 of IPC and Sections 3 and 5 of Arms Act.
The motive behind crime is suspected to be their previous enmity.
