Two persons have alleged that copper wires worth Rs 6.2 crore have gone missing from the grounded ‘MV River Princess’.
In a complaint to the Calangute police, Ketan Govekar of St Inez, Panjim and Kashinath Shetye of Ribandar have stated the incident has taken place subsequent to the inspection by various government departments like Tourism, GCRZMA, Navigation, Panchayat, Inland waterways and salvage companies.
Govekar and Shetye have alleged that the theft may have taken place in connivance with the original owners of the vessel, thereby causing losses to the government and the exchequer.
They have asked the Calangute Police to take immediate cognizance of the complaint and file an FIR under Sections 378, 379, 461, 462, 120B and 34 and also under Sections of Prevention of Corruption Act and conduct a thorough inquiry in the matter.
A copy of the complaint has also been forwarded to the North Goa Superintendent of Police to initiate action in the matter if the Calangute Police fails to investigate the case.
When contacted, Anjuna Police Inspector Manjunath Dessai, who is also holding additional charge of the Calangute police, said he was not aware of any such complaint letter.
DySP P L Mapari was busy in a meeting and could not be contacted for comments in the matter.
