Now, GIS-based application for solid waste mngmt in urban areas

PANJIM: The State government has decided to implement Geographic Information System (GIS)-based applications for effective solid waste management in the urban areas. It has also decided to rope in auditors and initiate steps to recover the outstanding dues. 

Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday chaired a meeting with the department officials, Secretary Ramesh Verma, Commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji and Chief Officers of all municipal councils to review current progress against the ideal performance of the department. 

Post meeting, Rane informed that decision has been taken to broaden the domain further and tighten loose ends of the department and municipal councils. 

He said that various issued were discussed such as implementation of GIS-based applications to manage solid waste, preparation of master plan for seamless functioning, empanelment of auditors, recovery of outstanding tax, trade licences and more. 

“We also addressed the problem of single use plastic and actions to be taken against the violators,” Rane said. 

The Minister informed that a comprehensive meeting will be held every month to take stock of the ongoing projects and concrete the specifics of plans in the pipeline.
