Now, group of villagers at Bhoma support highway expansion

PONDA: While the villagers of Bhoma are opposing the proposed National Highway (NH) expansion plan passing through the village and demanding for a bypass, another group of locals came forward on Monday and claimed that existing highway expansion (proposed flyover at Bhoma) is possible. They said the views of Sanjay Naik, leader of Bhoma agitation, is not the opinion of the entire village. They said he is misleading people for his own political interest.

They alleged that leader of Bhoma agitation Sanajay Naik is just instigating villagers for bypass as he and few others would lose his house for existing NH expansion. But the construction of the bypass would only affect fellow villagers.

The group of villagers further said the existing NH widening plan with Flyover at Bhoma will not affect the four temples and in this regard written assurance has been given to them by NH authorities. They further said Bhoma Adcolna Panchayat had even supported resolution for highway expansion in 2016 when the wife of Sanjay Naik was the Sarpanch.

The group said if he (Naik) wants to save the village from NH widening without affecting any house or temples he should show alternative way and land for bypass or he should explain how it would pass through the industrial estate.

Naik rejected their allegations. He said the villagers are literate and there is no question of misleading them. He said the politicians are trying to create a split in the agitation. He said villagers are united and also approached the High Court over the NH expansion plan. He said Bhoma villagers are united over the issue.
