Now, ‘kite flying’ officially banned around Dabolim airport

Kite flying has flight safety implications, states order of South Goa Collector

DABOLIM: While there has been quite a lot of kite flying going on about the future of Dabolim after the opening of Mopa, it has been officially banned in and around the Dabolim airport. Ironically.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the South Goa District Magistrate Jyoti Kumar informed that the Captain (Air), for Commanding Officer, INS Hansa, Dabolim, that they have observed kites flying in the vicinity of Goa International Airport. The general area in which the kite flying was observed falls in the flight path of low-level helicopter flying. These instances of kites/objects being flown near or within the airport boundary have serious implications for flight safety. When the aircraft is in the critical phase of landing or take off, the presence of objects such as kites/lanterns is considered highly detrimental with grave consequences.

Kumar said considering the serious threat to aviation safety concerns and to curb such activities, the general public is therefore directed to refrain from such acts to avoid any untoward incident leading to inadvertent hazardous situations.
