PANJIM: It’s that time of the year when mango, ‘the King of Fruits’, is consumed by Goans on a large scale with its kernel discarded as garbage or thrown on the streets. However, instead of discarding these kernels, now you can send them to Mumbai-based Dominic Fernandes for helping Maharashtra farmers grow them into saplings and earn a sustainable livelihood.

Fernandes would in turn give these seeds to few NGOs, who will in turn send them to the farmers of Maharashtra.

Fernandes urged the people to wash and clean the seeds properly and then dry them in the sun and parcel it to him.

“We can’t stop breathing but what we as citizens can do is purify the air that we breathe. It is very expensive to collect five to six lakh mango seeds hence I am collecting mango seeds from people from different parts of the country,” he said.

According to Fernandes, “It is now for us to come forward and take care of the flora and fauna of our vicinity, plant new trees and create awareness. These actions will ensure a better and sustainable environment for the future.”

Appealing to the people to help him by sending mango seeds, mango man Fernandes said that the NGOs would supply them to the farmers, then will grow the saplings, or even grown mango trees and make a living.

Fernandes is creating awarness about his initiative on social media.
