CALANGUTE: Celebration of Holi with three day long weekend attracted the domestic tourists to spend their time in costal State, who flocked the beaches of North Goa. Thousands of domestic tourists were found crowding the North costal belt especially the queen of beaches, Calangute.  They were mainly from Maharashtra and Karnataka.

While they came to enjoy themselves, many tourists in their mid-age were found consuming alcohol right on the beach in daylight even when drinking on the beach is prohibited. No police personnel were seen at the beach to enforce the no drinking rule at the beach.

Tourists not only created a nuisance after consuming alcohol but also found breaking bottles and throwing them on the beach risking the people walking on the beach.

The supervisor of Drishti lifeguard at Calangute beach said that it was unmanageable for them to monitor the tourists.

“Authorities should demarcate an area on the beach where the tourists can drink in open and which should be away from the public, causing no nuisance. Let them drink, sleep or do whatever we will be able to monitor them more better. With no boundary, tourist consuming alcohol enter into the water,” the supervisor said.
