Now, promotion of PSIs through GPSC

PANJIM: The promotions of Police Sub Inspectors (PSIs) will not be an internal decision any longer.

As per a latest notification, the promotion of PSI with five years of regular service in the grade will now be through the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC).

The notification, issued by the Personnel Department states that consultation with the GPSC is necessary for promotion, confirmation and for amending/relaxing any of the provisions of the recruitment rules for the post of PIs.

“Where, the government is of the opinion that it is necessary or expedient so to do, it may, by order, for reasons to be recorded in writing and in consultation with the GPSC, relax any of the provisions of these rules with respect to any class or category of persons,” it states,

However, nothing in these rules will affect reservation, relaxation of age limit and other concessions required to be provided for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, former servicemen and other special categories of persons in accordance with the orders issued by the government from time to time in that regard.

As per the development, composition of a Departmental Promotion Committee will comprise of GSC, Chief Secretary or his nominee-member and administrative secretary/head of department-member.  Until the order, the promotions of eligible PIs were through a recommendation by Goa Police Establishment Board followed by approval from the superiors in the department and the government.
