Now, strict set of rules for entry, inspection of records at Archives Dept

PANJIM: At the backdrop of major land grab scam misusing archival records, the State Archives Department on Thursday issued strict set of rules for public for entry and inspection of records in the General Servicing Area of the department.

As per rule, public will be permitted to enter the General Servicing Area with only a paper and pen. ID proof issued by State/Central Government will have to be submitted for application of Records i.e. Land Registration Records, Notorial Records, Court files, etc.

The department has strictly banned photography of records while mobiles will have to be switched off in the General Servicing Area and Research Room.

Public will not be allowed to copy/write down the contents of public records. Research scholars will be permitted to enter with a book, pen/pencil and laptop.

Henceforth, the heirs/parties to the Inventory Proceedings will have to produce authority letter from the heirs or parties with ID proof to be submitted for inspection and application of the Inventory files.

Persons other than parties to the Inventory Proceedings can apply with ID proof specifying the reason for inspection and application of certified copy of Inventory Proceedings.

More than 100 cases of fraudulent land grab are under investigation.
