Vasco: People of Karnataka living in Goa have an interesting request. A Karnataka Bhavan in Goa for those from the state coming to Goa
The All Goa Kannada Mahasangh (AGKM) members handed over their memorandum to the Chief Minister of Karnataka on Friday demanding to have a Karnataka Bhavan in Goa in near future for the “welfare, medical support for the Kannada population staying in Goa and for people coming to Goa from Karnataka as tourists.
Citing an example of Goa Sadan in Delhi, Sidhanna Meti, head of AGKM questioned that if Goa Sadan can be established in Delhi then there can be Karnataka Bhavan in Goa. Incidentally, all states including Karnataka, have sadans in Delhi mainly for those travelling for official work.
The Karnataka CM Basavraj Bommai has apparently assured AGKM to consider the proposal and directed officials to keep funds of Rs 10 crores ready for the Bhavan.
Meti mentioned that “this will improve relations between the two states. This Bhavan facility is just to benefit people. If Karnataka Bhavan comes up then many tourists coming from Karnataka may get to use this facility for stay. He overlooked the fact that this will deprive Goans running establishments revenue from tourist footfalls.
