MARGAO: The electorate now feels that the aspirants contesting panchayat elections should also take oath before God in churches, temples and mosques that they will never commit any illegalities and will always work for the betterment of the villagers, once elected.
The voters opined that the candidates should always work for the betterment of the locals and the village.
They should also take oath that they are contesting the elections not for greed or to enrich their pockets.
“Like jumping legislature members who failed in their attempt to cross the bridge betraying the voters and now fearing the wrath of God for their oath, the aspirants contesting the panchayat elections should also take oath before God in churches, temples and mosques that if elected they would never do any illegalities,” Menino Fernandes, a voter said.
He said they should never ever loot the panchayat or the village or accept bribes but should always remain faithful, if elected.
“It is absolutely necessary for such an “oath/vow” before God in the presence of people, as some of the shameless/greedy” will try to enter the fray again,” Fernandes lamented.
Sandeep Naik from Navelim said the voters need to be vigilant while exercising or casting their precious and priceless votes.
“It is high time that the voters choose their panch member very carefully, as it is the matter of protection of the villagers from the greedy people. We have witnessed several cases before pertaining to destruction of the villages by ignoring and sidelining the people’s voice,” he said.
Peter Dias said the voters need to give a chance to the young people to take the responsibilities of their wards and villages.
“We need to protect our villages from destruction, and our younger generation too has a concern, but the thing is that they are not getting any opportunities to do something for their village,” Dias said.
