PANJIM: Due to immense pressure to act against fleecing cab drivers, the transport department has now provided for an instant complaints mechanism via SMS from Friday evening onwards. The complainant has to just SMS the complaint to 51969 and get it e-redressed.
The Transport Department is all set to launch its 24×7 SMS complaint service from February 21 to speed up redressal of complaints. “No complaints would be kept pending for more than 30 days,” Director Transport Arun Desai told media persons on Thursday.
In the backdrop of the gang rape in Delhi in December 2012, Central government has urged respective governments to have helpline numbers for public transport system, for which incentives would be provided.
The complainant would be able to register the complaint directly to the office of Assistant Director of Transport (ADT) who will then forward the same to the concerned dealing head. Each complainant would be provided with unique identification number based on which status of the complaints would be informed as and when required, Desai said.
Director said that all the complaints in regards to the violation of motor vehicles act would be entertained by the department. “The complainant would have to SMS the vehicle number and brief complaint on 51969,” he said.
With introduction of SMS Gateway the citizens need not visit the office of any authority to know the status of their application regarding registration of vehicles as SMS would be sent to the citizen on approval by the authority automatically. “This will be however done on trial basis for one month,” Desai said.
The Info Tech Corporation is the service provider for the SMS service which is being launched by Transport Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar today at 4 pm.
