MARGAO: Pursuant to requests from Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI), NRI Affairs Director UD Kamat has written to the chairman of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) asking for staff aboard cruise ships berthing at MPT to be allowed to meet their families in Goa.
“As you are aware, with the commencement of the new tourist season, a number of cruise ships have started visiting Goa through Mormugao Port courtesy the facility provided by your esteemed organization. Consequently, many a Goans gainfully employed on board the ships would like to meet their families,” said the NRI affairs director.
“Since due to the short time at their disposal, it is not possible for them to visit their homes, they are left with no alternative but to call their families to meet them on board the ships,” added U D Kamat.
He further explained that the “commissioner for NRI Affairs has been receiving requests from the GSAI o facilitate the visit of the family members of th Goan crew as and when the ships berth at the port.”
“In view of the above, the Government of Goa would be highly obliged if the Port Authorities would accede to the request of the Goan Seamen Association of India and allow the family members of the Goan crew to visit the ships to meet their bread-earners,” said U D Kamat.
