PONDA: Marcaim MLA and former PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said Non-Revenue Water (NRW) is a major problem in 24 x7 water supply distribution.
Dhavalikar said during his tenure as PWD Minister the government held several meetings and brought NRW down to 25 to 30 percent but now again it has crossed 40 per cent.
NRW is the water that has been produced and is “lost” before it reaches the customer.
He said after initiating JICA Project, Goa is the only State that supply 90 percent of treated domestic water in country.
He said, “Since water is essential commodity and on an average around 16000 litres were consumed by family of four, we had decided to provide 16 cubic meters of water free to the people and file was proposed in 2016 under Judicious Scheme of JICA project. However the same could not be launched due to some reason during the tenure of the then Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar and also in 2017 under Manohar Parrikar’s leadership.”
