PANJIM: The Field Operation Division (FOD) of the National Statistical Office (NSO) is conducting an Urban Frame Survey (UFS) 2017-22 across the State as part of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) digital mapping of Goa.

The NSO, which was earlier known as the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) is responsible for conduct of large scale sample surveys in diverse fields on all India basis.

Presently, they have been reaching out to local urban bodies like panchayats and municipalities seeking cooperation towards its field functionaries during their survey work on the ground.

The NSO officials explained that they collect primary data for different large-scale sample surveys on different socio-economic aspects like consumer expenditure, health, education, tourism, expenditure, employment and unemployment and agriculture etc. Besides these surveys, the NSO-FOD also maintains a frame of area units for use in sample surveys in urban areas.

They added that in order to conduct a proper large-scale sample survey, an updated sample frame (town map with blocks of 120-150 households) is used to build up such sampling frames in the urban areas to meet the specific requirements of various sample surveys.

“In the current phase of UFS, the NSO is incorporating the ward boundaries in these UFS maps, which will ultimately enable us to use the auxiliary information provided by the Census regarding the wards of each town,” said the official.
