PANJIM: In lines with the attendance relaxation granted to the students of general degree courses, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Goa unit have written to the Goa University demanding that the benefit be extended even to the professional colleges allowing students, to answer the upcoming semester exams, irrespective of their attendance.

University via a circular on April 19 informed all its affiliated colleges offering undergraduate general education programmes that in view of the Universities decision to introduce the NEP 2020 based curriculum for the academic year 2023-24, the requirements of OA-17 in terms of minimum attendance shall not be applicable to students of general education programmes, which are presently in Semester II, IV and VI thereby permitting them to answer their exams scheduled in April 2023.

NSUI Goa chief Naushad Chowdhari in a letter to Vice Chancellor has requested to allow the students of professional programmes to appear for the examination irrespective of their attendance, similar to the benefits granted to the general streams.

He said that many students from the professional programmes due to health issues and other related issues or due to wrongly implementation of OA-17 in the middle of  the current academic year 2022-23, do not fullfill their 75 per cent compulsory attendance and hence are been debarred from appearing from the upcoming semester examination.

“These students will have to repeat their entire semester again resulting in the backlog of entire academic year if they are not allowed to answer these exams,” Chowdhari said.
