NSUI demands postponement of GU-ART

MAPUSA: The National Students Union of India (NSUI) has criticized the decision of Goa University to advance the Goa University Admission Ranking Test (GU-ART) to January 27.  The NSUI has demanded that the exams be postponed to June as it used to be held earlier so that there would be no additional burden on the third year students.
This entrance exam was introduced by Goa University for all post graduate seats in the State but now they have altered the format of the test for 2019-20.
The test is mandatory for all students seeking admission to postgraduate programmes at Goa University.
On December 7, the students received a circular that the Ranking Test would be held on January 13. After which, the third year students led by NSUI went to Goa University seeking postponement of the exam and also sought an appointment with the University vice-Chancellor.
Finally, the students received another circular stating that the Ranking Test has been postponed by two weeks to January 27.
North Goa NSUI President Naushad Chowdhari pointed out that they visited Goa University on January 1 to seek postponement of the Ranking Test after which they received a new circular stating that the exams have been postponed by two weeks.
“The third year students demand that the exams be postponed to June and not just by two weeks. In January the third year students have their ISAs, other project works; and hence, it is difficult to study for the GU-ART in the middle of all these. The Goa University may think this is a joke, but we as NSUI and the whole batch of third year students across Goa demand that the Ranking Test be postponed to June,” Naushad said.
A member of NSUI, Lenin Da Cunha told Herald that they want the Ranking Test to be held in June as earlier and not this month. “This exam decides our fate; as, first of all, there are very few seats for postgraduate courses at Goa University. It is not a joke to study the portion of the first four semesters for this exam within a month with so many other things going on simultaneously. We totally criticize this move of advancing the GU-ART exams and conducting them before our third year exam is over,” Lenin said.
On January 8, the NSUI sent letters to the offices of the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary, Education Secretary as well as to Goa University, Chancellor and Vice Chancellor to intervene in the matter.
NSUI said that it is with all the students across Goa and would go to any extent to see that the exams are postponed.
