PANJIM: National Students Union of India (NSUI) Goa Unit on Friday gheraoed the controller of Goa University (GU) for not awarding degree certificates to students.
The delay in issuing the certificates was as the annual convocation was postponed due to last minute changes in the schedule of President Ram Nath Kovind.
“We took an assurance from her to give the certificates by June 15. A total of 3,000 students are affected by this,” NSUI President Ahraz Mulla said.
He added, “All this has happened when the Chief Minister of Goa is not in town and we believe that this is the reason that the convocation certificates are not given.”
President Kovind was to have visited Goa for the first time since assuming the office of President of India.
GU had announced that it would confer the President with a honorary doctorate in Law. The varsity’s 2017 convocation was graced by then President Pranab Mukherjee.
